So after a early morning arrival....a quick run in the hotel gym...it was lunch time. Although I was raving about the A380 it did have one fault in my eyes. It wasn't the quality of the stewardesses who were sweet.....it wasn't the the flow of beer as the Tigers kept on coming....it was the comfort of the seats. Talk about hard. The headrest was like a rock. Little sleep was had on the flight so lunch was taken nearby in the food court in the shopping centre under the hotel.
So what to go for on the first meal? Hainanese chicken rice - almost the national dish of this part of South East Asia. The food court was very much a locals food court but there was a chicken rice stall. It's a pretty basic dish with the chicken boiled in stock and the rice also cooked in chicken stock. As normal there was the option of many chili accompaniments which I did in moderation. It's only day 1 after all!!
Overall the rice was very flavoursome - no small thanks to a bit of chili sauce. The chicken was tender but not a 'melt in the mouth' tender I was expecting. The cucumber - well I'm not sure what is added. For SGD$3.50 you really can't go wrong. Well now I have a control standard as I'm this won't be the last portion of chicken rice over the coming weeks.
