Melaka - The heat goes up to 11

The ‘heat’ dial is at 11 here in Melaka and wandering the streets looking for a decent restaurant has implications on the number of Tiger beers you have to drink later on to get the body back into balance. Being pretty much a beer light-weight nowadays, after 30 minutes of wandering about I had had enough and sought the nearest shopping centre. Here I found a Korean BBQ buffet – the type I’ve yet to see in London. It was the only restaurant which had more than 5 people in so I gave it a go. So you have a hot plate and a soup bowl within which you cook the meat, vegetables, unrecognisable frozen ball taken from the buffet bar.

The choice of meat was limited with a choice of either beef or chicken marinated in a number of different ways. Seafood wise there was squid and pepper fish. In the end it was information overload. Trying to work out what each item was…working out if it was to be grilled or put into the soup and boiled…..cooking it for the appropriate amount of time ….remembering the order I’d put it to cook!! In the end…undercooked chicken and overcooked fish was the result. The chicken itself was really quite poor (not my cooking!!). Very much the rough cuts of meat which had all congealed and become stuck into one big mess due to the marinade.

No more DIY cooking from now on.
